I cannot believe this is so hard to get across.
Since Sonic Lost World's release last October, I've been extremely dissatisfied with its characterization of Amy Rose, nearly as much as I was with Free Riders' and Colors DS’, if not even moreso for this game.
My main issue with the portrayal,…
The reason I don’t agree with this at all is because you exaggerate what Amy was in SLW rather then what she ACTUALLY was (comparing it to PMS, which is always classy I guess).
So first off, I cant believe it would take no less then a endgame scenario for you to accept the fact that Amy is worried over a bunch of animals being brutally mistreated by Eggman (which was SAW happening, by the way). Her being worried and distraught is not bad characterization rather it shows how kind hearted Amy can BE, especially towards animals. Hell we SAW that in SA1 and suddenly it’s a problem because? Seriously how the hell is that a “panic attack”? This is what I meant by exaggerating things when there’s zero relevance for it. Hell id Pontac was trying to find balance between the character, trying to move away from the crazy psycopath everyone is used to and moreso trying to appeal to a generally softer and caring side of the character that isn’t seen as often as it should a la Unleashed.
Knuckles is another issue in and of itself but ill just say that the whole “idiot” character angle did NOT start with Pontac, hell if anything it’s toned down.
Amy replied “something bad is happening” because that…exactly what’s happening, she doesn’t know the circumstances of why the planet’s life is being sucked out and she could at least tell it’s having a negative effect on the area and THEM, so yes something BAD was indeed happening, how was that a bad line?
The literal life was being sucked out of her, of course she thought she was going to bite the dust, but DESPITE that she STILL believes that Sonic would save the day like always, that isn’t called “mood swings” that’s called DEVOTION, a trait of Amy that’s overlooked because they’re to busy portraying her as that insipid stalker with a crush characterization, it was in Unleashed to (which is another portrayal of her I didn’t instantly hate) and it was just as strong there as it was here. Also, blaming Pontac because the VA didnt deliver the line in the way you wanted her to, because that makes sense.
And for the record, I dont believe Amy ever once said to Sonic upfront that she “loved” him, if you can prove me wrong then go ahead but otherwise the scene is valid.
If Amy was right there, on Lost Hex, in the action herself (like in SA2 and 06) that might be a legitimate reason, but for one reason or another Amy decided to stay behind and she did what she could do, take care of the animals that were back on the planet, worry for the ones that were captured but HAVE FAITH that Sonic would save them. I don’t see this is, ugh “PMS” but simply Amy written to be a somewhat more down to earth character
^ This is cool man, you deserve a trophy.
